Our Mission
What We Do
Friends of Afghanistan is committed to promoting the Third Goal of the Peace Corps by sharing our experiences in Afghanistan with our fellow Americans to foster intercultural understanding, international friendship, and world peace.
To achieve these objectives, we support Starfish Initiatives, which assist individuals, families, and small Afghan communities in Afghanistan, the US, and across the global Afghan diaspora.
The groups listed below have each received FoA grants ranging up to $5,000 during our recent donation cycles:
Preserving Afghan cultural heritage through children’s music.
Evacuation assistance for at-risk Afghans and their families.
Promoting mutual understanding between cultures.
Empowering Afghan women through health & education.
Supporting traditional Afghan textile artisans.
Teaching Afghan women to code and build futures.
Providing support to Afghan refugee families worldwide.
Education in underserved rural Afghan areas.
Developing leadership & support for Afghan youth.
Advocating for Afghan allies and their resettlement.
Scholarships for Afghan women in midwifery.
Afghanistan’s first all-girls boarding school.
Spreading education and the Peace Corps message.
Modern fashion blending Afghan culture and design.
Accomplishing our strong outreach efforts involves building partnerships that support our presence in Afghanistan and with our allied organizations dedicated to assisting members of the Afghan community worldwide.
